Dozens of designers from around the world arrived in Kohler, Wisconsin, yesterday for an exciting kickoff to the 2018 Kohler Design Affair. Interior Design editor in chief Cindy Allen delivered a welcome address before Mark Bickerstaffe, Kohler’s director of new product development, introduced this year’s theme, “Making the Modern World.” The discussion explored how Modernism factors into the design of Kohler’s new products. Speakers Marc Fornes and Dr. Irwin Adams proceeded to explore how Modernism extends beyond created spaces and objects and into everyday life, examining art as an expression of architecture and how great design can create a better dining experience. Herbert Kohler, executive chairman of Kohler, concluded the day’s activities with a rich look at the company’s history, and a statement of Kohler’s commitment to remaining on the forefront of design.
