Rockwell Group Debuts Mix-and-Match Office Furniture Line for Knoll

The night before NeoCon, Interior Design Hall of Fame member David Rockwell won a Tony Award, his first, for the jewel-box set of She Loves Me. The next day, the curtain rose on a very different production: Rockwell Unscripted, the Rockwell Group’s office-furnishings debut. The over 30 mix-and-match components for Knoll approach the workplace as a stage, fittingly—the scene shifting with the changing tasks at hand. “This kit-of-parts concept is an un-system,” Rockwell says. Tables with veneered tops and exposed plywood edges range from oversize to occasional. Storage options include credenzas, consoles, lockers, and mobile bins. Privacy screens boast covers in fabric, cork, and more. Steps in Russian birch are literal building blocks for teamwork. As for the lounge chairs, benches, stools, and ottomans, they suggest seating in a hotel lobby—more familiar territory for Rockwell.
