Sense of Place: Grand Hyatt Shenyang in China

Industrial design elements inspired by Shenyang’s manufacturing culture are still evident in the new Grand Hyatt Shenyang’s 25th-floor Sky Lobby, but Hirsh Bedner Associates’ addition of a plush violet and orange carpet softens the overall look.

Dramatic steel beams, bronze latticework and white sculptures depicting life in the industrial city of Shenyang, China, create a natural link to the local culture and environment at the new 353-room Grand Hyatt Shenyang.

With a design theme of “functional luxury,” the 353 spacious rooms and suites (starting at 452 square feet) at the Grand Hyatt Shenyang in Northeast China feature natural tones, creamy brown and grey sycamore wood panels from Italy, a tufted leather headboard, and soothing floral graphics in the wool carpet and wall art.

The Grand Hyatt Shenyang is located in a newly constructed 29-story tower in the Northeast China industrial city of Shenyang. Dramatic steel and bronze design accents are intended to evoke the city’s manufacturing heritage.

Hirsch Bedner Associates continued the industrial-inspired visual drama at the Grand Hyatt Shenyang with its design for the Lobby Lounge, a 25th-floor bar framed by bronze screens and punctuated by suspended chandelier of crystal glass cubes.

At the Hirsh Bedner Associates-designed Spa at the Grand Hyatt Shenyang, wellness is not rushed. The soothing Bianco Statuario marble and grey Lati wood treatment rooms each feature a deep soaking tub and a year-round indoor veranda overlooking a Zen garden.
