Toi Toi Toi Creates an Adaptable Berlin Office for Online Brand Contentful

PROJECT NAME Contentful Office
LOCATION Berlin
FIRM Toi Toi Toi
SQ. FT. 7,750 SQF

The content infrastructure firm Contentful is all about flexibility, efficiency, and removing clutter—and one look at its new Berlin office proves it. Designed by Berlin’s Toi Toi Toi Creative Studio, which took its name from a theatrical expression similar to “break a leg,” the 7,750-square-foot space is a breezy interpretation of the online brand.

In the café, Hay tables and benches join Muuto chairs beneath pendants by Norman Copenhagen. Photography by Kasper Jensen Photography.

“We wanted to establish a new look the company can grow with,” says Toi Toi Toi’s co-founder and co-creative director Melissa Amarelo. To that end, each space can be used in more than one way: The café, for example, sports raised platform seating with sliding metal tables, while hallways offer elegant benches for spontaneous meetings. The team found efficiency not through cost-cutting but by investing in quality furnishings in durable fabrics that will hold up over time.

At reception, a Muuto chair sits before wall-to-wall multiplex storage which can be configured to contain lockers, wardrobes, and supplies. Photography by Kasper Jensen Photography.

Clutter is also a thing of the past thanks to wall-to-wall cabinetry constructed in parts so that it can be dissembled and reinstalled should the firm ever move. Rapid growth might occasion such a thing, but for now Contentful is right at home in the space, a former lamp factory that’s now full of bright ideas.

The café’s Rform bench near a sconce by Faro is the perfect spot for a snack of fresh fruit and espresso; the rear reception desk is custom-made of white slats that echo the wall treatment in the café. Photography by Kasper Jensen Photography.
Open informal workspaces offer banquettes covered in Camira Fabrics’s Main Line Flax and tables by Enea, which also created the wheeled poufs in Contentful’s brand colors. Photography by Kasper Jensen Photography.
