Stantec Adds a Zigzagging Residential Tower to Miami’s Skyline

Miami’s architectural landscape, especially surrounding Brickell City Centre, is synonymous with reinvention. The latest beacon of change is Solitair Brickell, a bold residential tower designed by Stantec and developed by ZOM Living. The 50-story high-rise sports a unique angular basket-weave facade that riffs on the Medjool date palm tree commonly seen in South Florida. Inside, 438 residential units ranging from studios to two penthouse suites come with millennial-friendly amenities such as a billiards lounge, luxury cabanas, one of Miami’s highest rooftop resort–style pools, a fitness center, outdoor yoga space, and 6,200 square feet of ground retail space.

Stantec designed Solitair Brickell to command attention, not just through its eye-catching exterior, but by combining several disparate materials such as intricate wood elements, concrete panels, and bright marble walls. “The overall vision was to seamlessly draw from the building’s architectural concept,” says Susan LaFleur, director of residential and hospitality interiors in the firm’s Miami office. “Designed with cool neutral materials, the interiors serve as a gallery and backdrop for bold, artistic elements.” These include plush couches, rugs, and ottomans that help achieve textural harmony.

Aesthetics aside, Solitair Brickell adheres to top sustainability guidelines and will receive Silver Certification by the National Green Building Standard. Its myriad green features include low-VOC paints, recycled glass, and low-emitting carpets, adhesives, and sealants, and its orientation also avoids direct sunlight and solar radiation.
