You’d think she was born ‘down the shore. The expert eye of Interior Design Hall of Fame member Anda Andrei returns to New Jersey with Asbury Lanes, her follow-up project to the iStar–developed Asbury hotel a few yards away, a collaboration with Bonetti/Kozerski Architecture and Design that’s turned the beach town into a destination. The same team reassembled to bring the 1960’s bowling alley—legendary for its live music, late nights, and, of course, lanes—to the 21st century yet retain its rocker patina. Exterior repairs included white-washing original brick and restoring neon signage. Inside, over 250 hollowed-out red, white, and blue bowling balls suspend over the bar in the pattern of the American flag. The old lanes now make up flooring for most of the 12,300-square-foot space, while new lanes are phenolic resin. They’re protected by plywood platforms during concerts. On June 18, Asbury legend Bruce Springsteen headlined the venue’s launch party. The event closely preceded the announcement of Asbury Ocean Club, an under-construction 17-floor hotspot that features luxury residences and a 54-room boutique hotel.
