From April 12 to 17, designers and architects will flock to Milan for the annual Salone del Mobile, kicking off the season's slew of global design happenings. It was tough to narrow down the installations and exhibits taking over the city—but here's our cheat sheet!
Apparatus unveils its latest collection at its Milan showroom, including the Circuit series featuring a glowing glass capsule nesting in a brass shade; Tassle, a modern take on the classic chandelier; and the Portal Tables in Marble, available in both coffee and dining table versions.

Japanese designer Oki Sato, in collaboration with Friedman Benda gallery, will present “50 Manga Chairs” in Milan during Salone del Mobile at Basilica Minore di San Simpliciano. With this exhibition, Nendo abstracts archetypes of manga comics. The chairs are happy, distressed, embarrassed, surprised; they leap and bound, zoom past, or slowly slink away. Each chair has its own personality, allowing it to stand on its own or, when placed next to the others, to become part of a collective narrative.

After a two-year development phase, the 2016/Arita concept is finally launching (you may have seen it previewed last year at Rossana Orlandi). In an ongoing collaboration between The Netherlands and Japan's porcelain market, creative directors Teruhiro Yanagihara and Scholten & Baijings partnered 16 designers with 10 Arita potteries. The results? Over 300 new ceramic pieces by the likes of Big-Game, Stefan Diez and Tomás Alonso.

This thought-provoking exhibition highlights drawers and dressers—by the likes of Ettore Sottsass, Bianca Xai, Alessandro Mendini, and Mario Botta—as reimagined forms of expression by contemporary artists and designers. Since dressers and drawers are normally seen as objects to hide and store everyday life, the artists aimed to turn them inside out, in a sense, creating a visual feast when juxtaposed with Renaissance art and objects in the historic environment of this Milanese-house-turned museum.
