Milan Preview: Salone del Mobile 2016

From April 12 to 17, designers and architects will flock to Milan for the annual Salone del Mobile, kicking off the season's slew of global design happenings. It was tough to narrow down the installations and exhibits taking over the city—but here's our cheat sheet!

1. Apparatus New Collection

The chairs are happy, distressed, embarrassed, surprised; they leap and bound, zoom past, or slowly slink away. Each chair has its own personality, allowing it to stand on its own or, when placed next to the others, to become part of a collective narrative.

25. Almost Secret at Poldi Pezzoli Museum

This thought-provoking exhibition highlights drawers and dressers—by the likes of Ettore Sottsass, Bianca Xai, Alessandro Mendini, and Mario Botta—as reimagined forms of expression by contemporary artists and designers. Since dressers and drawers are normally seen as objects to hide and store everyday life, the artists aimed to turn them inside out, in a sense, creating a visual feast when juxtaposed with Renaissance art and objects in the historic environment of this Milanese-house-turned museum.
