In her current role as Chief Sustainability Officer at Humanscale, Jane guides the strategic vision and ambitious goal of having a Net Positive impact. She guides the product development effort to create the most sustainable products possible, and by working with the manufacturing facilities, to instill sustainability as fundamental way of operating. Humanscale has been recognized as the first manufacturer to achieve the complete Living Product Challenge, is a founding member of the Net Positive Project, and of the NextWave initiative. Jane is on the board of directors for the HPD Collaborative, Vice Chair of the BIFMA Sustainability Committee, and is a recipient of the Women in Sustainability Leadership Award (WSLA).
As a designer, I have more choice about what goes into products—many that would be repeated hundreds of times in mass product. Customers can choose whether to buy a plastic or reusable bottle, but designers can choose what goes into the bottle in the first place.
