For today’s Instagram Live conversation with Interior Design Editor in Chief Cindy Allen, creative thinker and product designer Daniel Germani got online to share some laughter and light with Cindy. Germani calls both Argentina and Arizona home, and seeing the similarities both places face while attempting to control the COVID-19 outbreak has made him quite diligent about calling his loved ones. Good thing Cindy is on that list.
A protean talent, Germani hasn’t won major awards without cultivating good relationships with his industry peers and partners. In terms of connecting with his clients, Daniel is focusing his energy on preparing for what is next—and revisiting pieces that weren’t working—to rewire creativity. He’s come to terms with this moment not being a time for feeding on the excitement of new projects, but is taking a “pause,” playing his Barbra Streisand albums, and thinking about how to make work better for the future.
Not all of the factories and manufacturing centers Daniel uses have been closed. He and Cindy showed and explained to viewers some of his favorite designs, a bathroom vanity among them, with shout-outs to his collaborators on the various projects. With firms figuring out how to keep their people employed, Daniel spoke to the importance of synergy within a company and when people from different places come together on one product.
“You need to do things that feed your soul,” he advised, and then joked about how much the world has been doing just that—not in the way he meant, but by cooking so much! So, he’s drinking like he’s on vacation. Perfect timing for Cindy to show off a martini bar cart Daniel designed. The flowers that bloom at night on the cacti in his backyard, playing with his dogs, and being grateful for all that he has—these are things that have allowed Germani moments of serenity while in isolation. “Hopefully some lessons are learned,” he told Cindy about what he expects to happen with everyone after this is over.
