The American Society of Interior Designers announced March 5 that Material Bank is among a select group of 2020 National Awards winners. The ASID National Awards honor achievement in four categories across the industry: Designer of Distinction, Design for Humanity, Design Innovation—awarded to Material Bank—and the Nancy Vincent McClelland Merit award, which pays tribute to the first female president of ASID (known as the American Institute of Decorators in the 1940s when she held the title).
"Material Bank is truly honored to win this prestigious award," says Adam Sandow, CEO and founder of SANDOW, who developed Material Bank’s proprietary platform to streamline and speed up the material searching and sampling process. "ASID is such an important part of the design community and to be recognized for innovation by an organization that we admire and respect means a great deal to us."
The ASID National Award for Design Innovation spotlights the development of an innovative product or project that contributes to the interior design community in the more ways than one, such as: positively impacting human behavior; promoting comfort, efficiency, or communication; exemplifying a commitment to the profession; exhibiting a commitment to sustainability, health, and wellness; and displaying an overall appreciation for design. Material Bank users experience firsthand the manner in which the brand demonstrates these characteristics. After all, the proprietary platform continues to revolutionize the way designers and architects approach an essential stage of project development—searching and sampling materials. With a sustainable reclamation program and access to more than 160 leading manufacturers, designers can place an order by midnight (EST) and receive a recyclable box with requested materials the next morning.
2020 National Award winners also include: Kay Sargent, senior principal and director of workplace for HOK (Designer of Distinction); George Bandy, Jr., chief sustainability officer of Mohawk Flooring North America (Design for Humanity); and Barbara J. Huelat, author, interior designer, and healing design strategist (Nancy Vincent McClelland Merit award). Recipients will be honored at an awards gala, Spotlight: Illuminating Great Design, on March 29 in Scottsdale, Arizona at the inaugural edition of The WELL Conference.
“The individuals and organizations receiving this year's ASID National Awards epitomize the Society's 'Design Impacts Lives' mission," Randy W. Fiser, ASID CEO, said in a statement. "Leading by example, they show the profound effects that design can have on communities and people. Their immense dedication and visionary innovation continually shape the industry for the better, and we are thrilled to celebrate their achievements."
Material Connexion, also a division of SANDOW, won the ASID National Award for Design Innovation in 2012.
