Months into the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers of the Salone del Mobile.Milano recently announced that the storied fairinitially scheduled to take place April 21-26, 2020, and postponed several times since—now will take place Sept. 5-10, 2021.

“Being able to hold the Salone next year is an absolute priority for all those of us whose lives revolve around design,” said Claudio Luti, president of Salone del Mobile.Milano, noting that the new dates also account for the safe set up and dismantling of the various pavilions. Optimistic for the future, the 2021 edition—which marks the Salone’s 60th anniversary—will be bigger than ever. “We believe moving the fair to September will leave enough time for the ongoing acute phase of the pandemic to subside and that this will provide a real chance to kickstart design at the global level… After such a lengthy period of physical and social distancing in every sphere, we would like to be able to see the Salone as an opportunity for actual meetings and discussions, and a chance for us all to share our excitement in a city buzzing with new ideas.”

Next year, all the biennial exhibitions will be held in conjunction with the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, the International Furnishing Accessories Exhibition, Workplace3.0, S.Project and SaloneSatellite. For the first time ever, EuroCucina, FTK (Technology For the Kitchen) and the International Bathroom Exhibition will simultaneously take place, along with Euroluce, which was already scheduled for 2021.
