Henrybuilt, a manufacturer known for simplifying kitchen design, today announced the opening of a showroom for its newly founded sister company, Space Theory. The showroom, located in Seattle’s Georgetown neighborhood, has a minimalist aesthetic that spotlights functionality, enabling users to touch and move pieces as if at home.
“We want people to have the feeling that their kitchen is really serving them, so we set up the showroom that way, with zoned work areas,” says Michelle Kalsi, Space Theory’s general manager. The showroom also gives visitors a chance to test the company’s new customization software, called Design Engine.
Space Theory—born of the idea to create a more accessible line of Henrybuilt products—produces pre-assembled kitchen systems for residential and commercial spaces at a more affordable cost. The company developed its proprietary software to help streamline the design process internally, at first. “We wanted to synthesize years of designer knowledge gained through Henrybuilt,” says Kalsi. But the team quickly realized it could be a tool for customers, as well. Now Design Engine is ready for widespread use.
Design Engine enables Space Theory to price products approximately 30 percent lower than Henrybuilt’s line, since it eliminates tailored design consultations. Instead, Space Theory customers take a DIY approach, using the software to test the look and fit of cabinets, hardware, countertops, and sinks. To use Design Engine, customers drag and drop products into a virtual kitchen, sizing them within the parameters available, to determine what best suits their needs. Space Theory’s products are made to fit together, which simplifies the DIY process, mirroring what Kalsi calls “sophisticated LEGOs.” Real-time pricing also is visible in Design Engine for added transparency.
Space Theory, which has the capacity to work with clients across the globe, uses the Henrybuilt production facility in Seattle to bring its products to life. Its kitchen systems allow for the integration of countertops and backsplashes, with the capacity to deliver sinks and faucets simultaneously.
The company plans to launch showrooms in several markets in 2020, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. The Seattle showroom is open from 10:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday or by appointment.
