NeoCon 2019 may be over, but for some members of the design community, the product conversations and parties continue. To keep the NeoCon vibe going strong, Gibson Interior Products hosted an open house in their New York showroom July 11.
“All I heard after NeoCon was ‘I wish I could have gone,’ since not everyone interested in design can attend,” says Ken Gibson, president of Gibson Interior Products. The solution—what the team is calling the first annual NeoKen event, which allows buyers to talk with manufacturers and peruse products introduced at NeoCon from vendors such as Arcadia, Encore, Logiflex, Formaspace, Artopex, OM Seating, Nook, and more. Attendees also enjoyed food and entertainment throughout the day, including treats from Ben & Jerry’s and Shake Shack, as well as a live band.
The 11,550 square foot space on the second floor of 1239 Broadway is a new one for Gibson Interior Products, which relocated at the start of 2019 after more than two decades in the New York Design Center. In the search for new digs, Ken Gibson sought out a location that could double as an inviting work and event space. The team designed the current showroom from the ground up, working from January through April to complete the finishing touches and, ultimately, create a bright and welcoming environment.
The NeoKen showroom affords each vendor ample space to display their products, and OM Seating took full advantage to showcase its vast collection of office chairs, including the height-adjustable Werksy Rocker, which offers stability when leaning back, perching forward, or rocking rhythmically. A new knit featuring desaturated tones and a warmer color palette is expected out in August for the Werksy line, giving the collection even more versatility in commercial and residential spaces, says Wilson Chow, president of OM Seating.
Up next, Ken Gibson hardly expects the party to end. “One of our goals for this space is to host designers,” Gibson says. NeoKen is just the beginning.
