2019 Promises to be a Big Year for Tile

Designers and architects rely on a whole host of materials to bring their projects to life, imbuing spaces with dimension, character, and longevity. But there’s one material that does this better than any other and that’s tile. Tile has been a part of the built environment for thousands of years and it continues to find a place in even our most futuristic buildings. Tile’s popularity over the millennia can be attributed to its core characteristics: durability, versatility, sustainability, affordability, and ease of maintenance.

The perfect way to see just how popular tile is with today's designers is by participating in the Coverings-lead National Tile Day (February 23). All that is needed to participate is to simply share an image of a favorite tile project with the hashtags #NationalTileDay, #WhyTile, or #Coverings2019 on Instagram, Facebook, or Twitter. Leading up to National Tile Day, designers can learn about some of the incoming trends and products that will be on display at Coverings 2019 from design influencers like Amber Clore, John McClain, Ashley Moore, Milton Miller, and many others. These influencers will continue to share their insights on tile through the month and throughout the duration of Coverings 2019.

“National Tile Day is an opportunity to reflect on the true impact and advancements of tile while giving designers a chance to showcase their favorite projects,” said Alena Capra, CMKBD, and  Coverings Industry Ambassador. “We are thrilled to spotlight one of the oldest known building materials, which serves as the foundation of so many designs.”

Speaking of Coverings 2019, this year the preeminent event for the ceramic tile and natural stone industry in North America will be held on April 9-12 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, FL. Coverings brings together more than 1,100 exhibitors and 26,000 industry professionals for four days of tile & stone appreciation. It’s a great opportunity to see the latest trends in the industry, network, attend sessions, and earn free CEU credits all in one venue. Registration is now open at no cost. This year marks Coverings’ 30th anniversary.

On the topic of trends, keep an eye out for these bold new offerings at Coverings:

- Mirrored looks, which naturally draw the eye and amplify light. They also create all kinds of potential for “Instagrammable” design.

- Pattern abounds this year, taking a cue from the resurgent popularity of wallpaper. Look for complex geometries, pop art, graphics, and wood-inspired offerings.

- Gauged porcelain panels or slabs are gaining in popularity because of their versatile applications. Designers have been using these products for cladding, walls, floors, and even countertops.
