4. Allied Maker
Fueled by a love of artisanal craft, husband-and-wife duo Ryden and Lanette Rizzo fabricate sophisticated yet simple lighting fixtures in thick gauge brass, solid American hardwoods, and hand-blown glass.
Detroit duo Evan Fay and Ayako Aratani creates experimental domestic objects defined by irregular forms and materials. An example is the sculptural Lawless chair, featuring foam ribbons covered in Neoprene that are interwoven through a blackened metal frame.
After working in his grandfather’s furniture factory, third generation designer Michael Felix now produces upholstered pieces by hand in Southern California. His Madda Chair was recently featured in “Special Editions: Art + Furniture Show” curated by Lauren Geremia at FOG Design+Art in San Francisco.
Based in Omaha and represented by Patrick Parrish Gallery, industrial designer Christopher Prinz pushes material boundaries with furniture made of wrinkled metallics such as copper, brass, and iridescent zinc nickel.
