Did anyone else spot the deep shades of blue and green and pops of vibrant yellow ruling the first day of Milan's enormous Salone del Mobile? Aside from color trends, timeless materials like stone, wood, and brass (perhaps a stability-seeking reaction to an uncertain economy?) are holding steady, as well as a continued preference for collections that allow designers to mix and match—from trays and rugs to seating and tables. Designer Jasper Morrison was everywhere we turned this year, as were Neri&Hu, Doshi Levien, Nendo, and Patricia Urquiola. We kept our ears open for offsite recommendations, too; rumor has it you can't miss Nilafur Depot, the COS lighting installation, Hem's ice cream socials, and Vitra's Color Machine. Keep on trucking—there's an endless supply of delicious design this week in Milan.
