Bio: Matthew Berman is a Principal and co-founder of award-winning design firm Workshop/APD. His work has been published in The New York Times, Metropolitan Home, Architectural Record, House Beautiful and Interior Design and New York Spaces named the firm as one of New York’s Top 50 Designers. 

In 2006, Matthew and his business partner Andrew Kotchen won the Sustainable Design Competition for New Orleans, sponsored by Brad Pitt and Global Green USA. Since winning the competition, Matthew and Andrew have been invited to speak around the world about their unique take on rebuilding New Orleans responsibly and their revolutionary approach to bringing ecologically sound design to low-cost housing.

Matthew received a Bachelor of Arts from Lehigh University and a Masters of Architecture from Columbia University. He was the editor, with Bernard Tschumi, of Index Architecture (MIT Press, 2003). He was also a Visiting Professor at the Pratt Institute and a member of the Planning Board of Asbury Park, NJ.

In addition, Matthew hosted Gallery HD’s television show called What the Window Washer Saw, an original weekly series about the world’s most iconic skyscrapers, and was a commentator on HGTV’s Top Ten. Matthew and his partner Andrew were also featured in Rockport’s Spring 2009 “Choose to Walk” multi-media and print campaign.
