Interior Design Magazine Names 2014 Hall of Fame Inductees

Interior Design magazine has named the honorees of its upcoming 30th annual Hall of Fame Awards : Hagy Belzberg of Belzberg Architects ; David Lake and Ted Flato of Lake|Flato ; Paola Navone of Paola Navone ; and Andrea Woodner of Design Trust for Public Space , the recipient of a special leadership award. The inductees were selected by Interior Design editor in chief Cindy Allen and a nomination committee of previous Hall of Fame members. “I’m tremendously excited to show off this year’s stellar lineup that enhance the lives of their clients, our community, our country, our design world,” says Allen.

Interior Design ’s Hall of Fame, established in 1985, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the design industry in areas such as architecture, interior design, furniture design and product design. Hosted by Allen and Interior Design president Mark Strauss the 30th Hall of Fame celebration will take place at The Waldorf Astoria New York on Wednesday, December 3. Hagy Belzberg of Belzberg Architects is a lauded architect, designer, fellow, and instructor. His Santa Monica, California-based firm has earned over 35 national and local design awards and has been featured in over 200 publications throughout more than 25 countries. Belzberg has held instructorship positions at UCLA, USC and The Southern California Institute of Architecture. His work has been exhibited at MOCA’s “A New Sculpturalism, Contemporary Architecture from Southern California”: the first extensive examination of the radical forms that have become prolific in Southern California architecture. Belzberg’s mantra? Architectural innovation.

David Lake and Ted Flato of Lake|Flato have, since the founding of their San Antonio-based firm 30 years ago, earned national recognition for a coherent, place-based approach to designing environmentally responsible and artfully crafted buildings that successfully merge with the landscape. By applying sustainable strategies to a wide variety of project types and scales, the firm’s architecture conserves energy and natural resources. Their work has received wide critical acclaim, most notably more than 150 international, national and state awards. As architects, teachers, community advocates and environmental stewards, David and Ted strive to elevate the public’s appreciation of architecture and foster the education of the next generation of designers.

Paola Navone is a citizen of the world driven by her extreme interest in the most widely differing cultures. Navone is a traveler, bowing to a natural inclination to cross boundaries. In her long and varied career she has switched easily between the roles of architect, designer, art director, interior designer, critic, teacher, and organizer of exhibitions. She works with brands of the Italian and international design world from Alessi to Poliform and Gervasoni with her most recent collaboration making news at Crate and Barrel.

Andrea Woodner is founder and board president of the Design Trust for Public Space , a nationally recognized incubator that transforms and evolves the New York City’s landscape with city agencies and community collaborators.  Her work can be seen, felt, and experienced throughout the five boroughs touching projects like the High Line and the redesign of the NYC taxi. Woodner also serves on the visiting committees of the Architecture and Design Department of the Museum of Modern Art and the Prints and Drawings Department of the Morgan Library and Museum.
