“The interior skin,” explains Phillips, “uses a special 3D knitted mesh material that allows background noise to pass into the walls and the sound from the nine speakers housed in the walls to pass back into the central space.”
Arup has incorporated sound and vision since 1946, working on everything from the Sydney Opera House to the "Water Cube" aquatics center for the Beijing Olympics.
