The Museum of Arts and Design’s annual Design Week gala in New York attracted more than 650 guests and raised about $22,000, with the highest bid of $5,095 going for a LTD Kara Darama LED Dress donated by Jen Kao. Sponsored mainly by the Lighting Science Group and Continental Mining and Metallurgical Corporation, the L.E.D. Ball was held in honor of the key technology that illuminates everything from the museum’s second-floor jewelry gallery to the ninth-floor restaurant’s lighting installation. Spread over two floors, the event featured 45 lots in a silent auction encompassing everything from task lighting, sculpture, and clothing to finedining, air travel, and yoga classes.
