Nominated Tsao & McKown Architects: "Andre's endeavors have elevated not only his own profits but also the public perception of the value of design. He approaches all his projects with the philosophy that design is program--it's how a place holds you and moves you. That's exemplified by our collaboration on the William Beaver House apartment tower. To build community with neighbors, we engaged the street with an indoor-outdoor restaurant. For residents, we provided semipublic spaces such as a lounge, pool, gym, and dog run. Choreographing a resident's experiences creates a true feeling of hospitality." Photo by Richard Bryant.
