All Work, Some Play: Media Offices with Personality

  • PROJECT NAME Multiple
  • FIRM Multiple

From a Lego-accented reception desk that reflects the youthful energy of start-ups, to morning donuts worked off at an in-house gym, to vinyl graphics that interpret city-street grid—these are media offices with with a big dose of personality to boost productivity.

1. Firm: Jump Studios

Project: Campus, London

Standout: Shelving made from vegetable crates and a Lego-accented reception desk reflect the youthful energy of the start-ups at this co-working space, launched by Google.

2. Firm: Gensler

Project: Autodesk, San Francisco

Standout: Vinyl graphics interpret the street grid of the city, while its nature-loving ethos comes through in a meeting area’s free-edge walnut tabletop and wooden paneling, both reclaimed.

3. Firm: Genlser

Project: Hotels.com, Dallas

Standout: The names of popular vacation spots, emblazoned on vinyl wall covering, meet pine shelving that displays employees’ travel souvenirs.

4. Firm: Studio O+A

Project: Evernote Corporation, Redwood City, California

Standout: Morning doughnuts, offered at the coffee bar built from douglas fir plywood, can be worked off on the white-ash staircase or the treadmills at the in-house gym.
