New York, Moscow, Madrid, Rome, London, Munich, Miami Beach, Venice, Hamburg, and now Los Angeles. That's the list, in chronological order, of cities where Labo Architecture has designed boutiques for Pomellato. The Milanese jeweler is known for its colored stones and its current brand ambassador, Academy Award-winning actress Tilda Swinton.
It's also been known for a somber palette, heavy on the lacquered wood and black granite and terrazzo. Establishing a very different tone, the Pomellato in L.A. is as light as a foamy cappuccino-all Venetian plaster and French limestone. Labo principal Raffaella Bortoluzzi calls the aesthetic "a contrast between the natural and the artificial." The latter comes into play with immense black-lacquered frames, mirror, and wall coverings in gold mesh and velvet. Seating by Patricia Urquiola and Vico Magistretti completes the brilliantly sunny setting, which, at 2,400 square feet on two floors overlooking Rodeo Drive, is also the largest Pomellato yet.
