Peter Glassford - Collage

After receiving a BFA in sculpture at the University of Texas at Austin, Peter Glassford honed his carpentry skills in Mexico and eventually turned to high-end furniture. Now he divides his time between San Antonio and Guadalajara, but he's obviously not forgotten his schooling. After gathering randomly shaped pieces of wood and discarded cutoffs from furniture factories, Glassford assembles his übersculptural Collage wall tiles to the client's specifications. A choice of two woods, ranging in thickness from ¾ to 2 inches, can be applied to the plywood substrate: Parota, a redwood-like tropical variety, or Rosa Morada, a species similar to rosewood. Finished with nitrocellulose matte lacquer and a wax topcoat, the tiles can be left natural or colored brown, charcoal, gold, or white. 956-337-5377; peterglassford.com.
