With the 6006 kitchen, the manufacturer revisits its 1960 "kitchen of the future" (center right), the first to do away with standard handles. The new ver sion garnered praise at this year's Euro cucina, in Milan, for its chic minimalism.
Fifty years later, the sleek strip handle running the length of the counter and wall cabinets remains; it's integrated now, though, and offered in matte aluminum and matte black. More retro flair comes from the curved counter and tall cabinet base. Another innovation: the floating shelf with chamfered bottom that glides under the handle-free wall.
Like your retro a little warmer? Surfaces of wood and stone are available in addition to stainless steel and glass-and the fossil-brown limestone countertop is a particularly smart option. AF New York - Crystalline

For the past four years, Hariri & Hariri has been working on the Sternbrauerei Salzburg, an Austrian mixed-use complex where the architecture recalls crystals and rock formations. Translating the concept on a more personal scale, Interior Design Hall of Fame members Gisue and Mojgan Hariri have now designed two tubs, single and double basins, vanity counters, and a medicine cabinet in a similar mode, and AF New York is manufacturing them as part of the Crystalline series. But that's not the only Austrian connection.
