Uxus - Light_Ness

It's not enough to flip a switch and proclaim, "Let there be light." Uxus can't tolerate passive consumerism. Instead, the multidisciplinary studio prefers users to be designers, too. That's the message delivered by Light_Ness, a limited-edition DIY lamp kit. The box contains unfi nished beech frames in two sizes (12 ½ by 19 inches and 15 ½ by 23 ½), a roll of bright orange tape, a customizable cord, and a lightbulb-everything required, aside from imagination. Once the frames are assembled, with the cord attached in the desired position, the buyer wraps them in tape however he or she likes.
Installation designers at the Set Company worked their magic with Light_Ness when it was introduced during Dutch Design Week. At a former Bakelite factory in Eindhoven, they illustrated the versatility of the kit by using it to build a replica of a World War II Spitfi re with a 21-foot wingspan. Sometimes, all you need is the right materials for an idea to take flight. 31-20-623-31-14; uxusdesign.com.
