LOMAX™ Technology Addresses Climate Change

As The Dow Chemical Company (Dow) continues to focus on developing innovative solutions to address the earth’s energy challenges, the Emulsion Polymers business has created LOMAX™ Technology. To help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and assist customers in developing high-performance products with sustainable attributes, LOMAX™ Technology uses renewable energy (currently landfill gas) in place of 90+ percent of the fossil fuels consumed in the production of Dow latex carpet backings.

Environmental responsibility is an integral part of the processes Dow implements and the solutions the company develops. That’s why our latex carpet backing technology is designed to preserve not only the beauty of your commercial and residential carpet, but also the beauty of the environment around us.

Dow Emulsion Polymers offers a number of sustainable solutions and chemistries to address the growing needs of the floorcovering industry:

• Uses renewable energy to replace 90+% of our fossil fuel consumption (LOMAX™ Technology) in the production of Dow latex carpet backings
• Eliminates approximately 26MM lbs of CO₂ Emissions
• Has low VOC emissions
• Complies with Carpet and Rug Institute’s Green Label standards
• Contributes five points toward the current NSF 140 Carpet Sustainability Standard
• Carpets certified under the NSF Standard are eligible to receive ½ to 2 LEED Innovation Points depending on the level of certification (Silver, Gold, or Platinum).
