Online Green Product Resource Debuts

Search criteria includes manufacturer, product type, and certification number.

Independent certifier Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) has launched a new Web site making it easier for users to find sustainable products certified under programs such as SCS Indoor AdvantageT Gold, SCS Sustainable ChoiceT, Recycled Content, and Biodegradability.

Targeting corporations, government officials, the media, and others in the green building industry, the site links to an online database. Search criteria includes manufacturer, product type, and certification number. Products can also be found according to other other standards--such as the ANSI/BIFMA furniture emissions standards or LEED from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Access is streamlined with interfaces including pull-down menus, open field key word searches, and search refinement and reset functions.

"We're already beginning to work on Version 2.0, which will include product images embedded with direct links to those products' web site profiles, as well as other helpful features," says Alexander Winslow, director of communications, SCS.

In addition to green building products, SCS has certifications in green building, forestry, agricultural production, food processing and handling, fisheries, energy, and retail.
