The GreenWorks platform is also called the first to transform 90 percent of synthetic carpet including Nylon 6, Nylon 6,6, and polypropylene into useable products. The manufacturer plans to use the center to make a dent in North American landfills--which are annually filled with more than six billion pounds of carpet.
In addition to processing 100 percent of the carpet it receives--such as fiber, backing, and latex--the center will work to reduce thermoplastic non-carpet recyclables.
"With our GreenWorks Center in place, we now offer a complete solution to help our customers and the environment at every stage of the cycle--from sustainable product manufacturing and recovery practices to recycling programs that recover these products back into themselves or other useable products," says Diann Barbacci, vice president of sustainable design for the Mohawk Group, Mohawk Industries' commercial business.
