Last week, the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario bestowed the 2006 ARIDO Awards of Excellence, honoring creativity and professional achievement in Ontario’s design community. During an awards ceremony coinciding with IIDEX/NeoCon Canada, the organization singled out 17 projects in nine different categories.
Categories included: Residential; retail spaces; workplaces; health care facilities; public and institutional spaces; restaurants, bars and clubs; restoration and adaptive reuse; special projects; and sustainable design. The awards program consists of three Awards of Excellence, 12 Awards of Merit, one Commitment to the Environment Award, and a Project of the Year award.
Highlights include design firm Powell & Bonnell’s restoration of an 1857 mill, which received both an Award of Excellence and the Project of the Year award; and HOK’s Toronto Studio project, which landed the firm a LEED-CI Gold from the U.S. Green Building Council.
