In Los Angeles, a city where celluloid dreams normally reign supreme, architecture, and design will get their due in October. The City of Los Angeles has proclaimed the month Architecture Month, marking the first time the built environment has been so honored in Tinseltown, according to a spokesman for the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA/LA), one of the sponsors of the series of workshops, tours, and lectures to be held in conjunction with the initiative.
Devoted to honoring buildings, parks, and other aspects of the built environment, Architecture Month will be officially designated at a City Hall ceremony October 12. Among the events planned are an architecture-themed scavenger hunt and a gala celebrating the third annual AIA/LA Restaurant Design Award winners.
Also featured is the inaugural Mobius LA expo and design conference, sponsored by kitchen and bath manufacturer Kohler. Boasting workshops, exhibits, and films, the event takes place October 24-26. Day three is Public Space LA!, an event dedicated to examining how Los Angeles can improve parks and other public spaces. Mobius LA takes place at the West Hollywood’s Pacific Design Center, 8687 Melrose Avenue, West Hollywood.
