Atlantic City, NJ Block to Receive Facelift

The project includes facades, lighting, signage, and graphics.

An entire block of the Atlantic City Boardwalk will soon receive a revamp. The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) has selected the New York office of design and consulting firm Stantec (formerly Vollmer Associates) to create a new aesthetic for the streetscape and all building facades on the 2600 block, which is located between Texas Avenue and California Avenue.

Design elements will recall the Atlantic Ocean seaboard pier architecture, art modern of the 1930’s, classic architecture, and Mediterranean style. The design team will address each individual building facade’s look and detail, lighting (in conjunction with Grenald Waldron Associates), signage, and historic period graphics. In addition, new electrical services, roofs, awnings, canopies, and windows which open onto the boardwalk during summer will be installed.

“We view the Atlantic City boardwalk as a mix of commerce and theater – a place to see, be seen and enjoy,” says Stantec senior architect Bob Kauffmann. “The buildings themselves are the major players in the boardwalk scene and the character of the new façade treatments must be welcoming, dynamic, and organized to enhance and elevate the overall aesthetic appeal.”

The firm will work closely with Atlantic City and CRDA to complete the project.
