Building Energy Gears up for Boston

Green items can still be donated to the NESEA Night auction.

From March 13-15, Boston's Seaport World Trade Center will serve as venue for the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association's (NESEA) 32nd annual conference, Building Energy 2007. Catering to architects, planners, engineers, builders, educators, university and hospital administrators, elected officials, building inspectors, real estate professionals, finance professionals, among others, the renewable energy tradeshow is anticipated to draw some 2,500 visitors. The 2007 event lineup includes an opening plenary by Edward Mazria, founder of environmental protection organization Architecture 2030, and NESEA Night, a silent live auction of green items.

A non-traditional, U.S.-based organization, Architecture 2030 was created to protect the global environment “by using innovation and common sense to develop and quickly implement bold solutions to global warming.” Mazria and Architecture 2030 are credited for defining the “Building sector,” a term which now influences the local, national, and global level. Working with the American Institute of Architects and the US Conference of Mayors, Architecture 2030 calls for all new buildings, developments, and major renovations to slash fossil fuel GHG-emitting consumption by 50 percent immediately, and for all buildings to be carbon neutral by 2030.
