Brooklyn Designs Calls for Entries

The event has a special focus on green design.

by Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 11/8/2006

If you are a Brooklyn-based designer or manufacturer of contemporary furnishings, here’s your chance to step into the limelight. The Brooklyn Chamber is now seeking entries for the fifth annual Brooklyn Designs, to be held May 11-13 in New York’s DUMBO area.

The juried event, sponsored in part by Interior Design, will be a melting pot of returning talent and rising stars. Items on view, with a special focus on green design and sustainable materials and products, include indoor and outdoor furniture, rugs, lighting, and accessories.

“To celebrate our fifth anniversary we are planning a number of new initiatives that will showcase the event’s evolution and growth," says Mark Kessler, interim president of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce. "The focus of the show, however, will remain the same – to highlight the best contemporary home furnishing designers and manufacturers in the Brooklyn."

Applications are available online (PDF).

Additional sponsors include Two Trees Management, Con Edison, Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau, Benjamin Moore & Co., MINI of Manhattan, Pratt Institute, the American Institute of Architects, the American Society of Interior Designers and the International Interior Design Association.
