Ingo Maurer - Alizz C. Cooper

Alizz C. Cooper, an adjustable lamp, is sure to coil itself around your rock 'n' roll heart. Made of rubber similar to that of a garden hose, Ingo Maurer's snake-shape ceiling lamp bends in almost any direction or uncoils to 126 inches. The head is actually an aluminum reflector concealing a single halogen bulb. Floor or table versions also offered. 212-965-8817; ingo-maurer.com. circle 405

Alpha Workshops - Eden Roc

Equally at home in Miami or Bedrock, the design collective's Eden Roc sconce is hand-cast in Hydrocal, a polymerized plaster, to resemble craggy shorelines—or is it rock candy? At 16 inches wide, 9 high, and 8 deep, it can house either incandescent or compact fluorescent bulbs. 212-594-7320; alphaworkshops.org. circle 641

Timothy Ben Furniture - Kite

Discussing his inverted diamond-shaped Kite pendant, Cardiff, England—based Tim Forrester says, "the cord is the jewel in the crown, as it uniquely holds the whole piece together." Composed of four radiating acrylic wedges—in clear, orange, Rot, or Blau—which encircle an incandescent bulb, the light has an adjustable cord that allows the user to set the final drop height. 44-7973-119-583; timothybenfurniture.co.uk. circle 644

Lladró - Clown

Be a lamp—Jaime Hayon's Clown. One of the circus-inspired fancies in the designer's Fantasy collection, the table lamp is crafted of porcelain with a gilded brass nose that works as a dimmer. Including the glass shade, it pratfalls in at 24 inches tall and 15¾ inches in diameter. 800-634-9088; lladro.com. circle 656

Leucos - Fairy

At once modern and whimsical, the cylindrical floor lamp hails from the Fairy collection by Renato Toso and Noti Massari. A rubber-coated wire cord spirals through the borosilicate crystal body, linking the polished chrome and matte-steel base to the ribbed top, which encloses a halogen bulb. 732-225-0010; leucos.com. circle 662

Boyd Lighting - Circolo

Circolo runs rings around the competition. It comes in finishes including blackened brass, satin nickel, and white acrylic. The bollard version, standing 36 inches high, is available with compact fluorescent lamping and ceramic metal halide. 415-778-4300; boydlighting.com. circle 769

Foscarini - Ellipse, Bell, Sphera, Vertical

It’s the stuff of daytime talk shows: He liked me, but he wanted to change me. No such angst from Giulio Iacchetti, who’s well aware that modification is a specifier’s prerogative. In fact, his Tropico fixtures for Foscarini welcome extreme customization, in practically any shape with diameters up to 6½ feet. Facilitating this flexibility fixation are 3½-inch lengths of faceted thermoplastic resin that snap onto steel rings of varying sizes. The clear or opaque pieces surround an acrylic diffuser, which can be fitted with an optional color filter. If so many options overwhelm, consider the four standard models: Ellipse and Bell, 29½ inches across; Sphera, 23¾ inches; and Vertical, about 12 inches. All accept a compact fluorescent bulb. 39-041-5953811; foscarini.com. circle 420

Marie Retpen - Smeltet

Smeltet, Danish for melted, resulted from this designer’s experiments molding glass with materials such as wood and clay. Standard versions are offered in black or blue and measure 9 or 10 inches high. Color and shape can also be fully customized. 45-5098-5767; retpen-glas.dk. circle 429

Property - Flower

When the disco ball loses its luster in your post-college days, your next stop just might be Property's Schilsan collection for an upgrade. The 36-inch-diameter Globe pendant is constructed with nickel plated discs. The aptly named Disc chandelier is a 41-inch-wide by 26-inch-deep cluster of steel discs in varied sizes, flocked around the incandescent light source. Like its companion Disc wall sconce, it is offered in oxidized, blackened, or custom colors. The Float table lamp features a brushed, nickel-plated steel cylindrical base topped with a cantilevered, 13-inch-diameter white acrylic diffuser. Flower, a 33-inch-wide by 39-inch-high blackened-steel pendant, is offered in black metal, nickel, burnished bronze, and custom colors. 917-237-0123; propertyfurniture.com. circle 657

Boyd Lighting - La Reina

Manufacturer: Boyd Lighting.

Product: La Reina.

Standout: Concentric circles were specially designed for their light-filtering effects.

Who knew that a walk in the woods could be so illuminating? Strolling through a grove in Peru, Federico Otero was captivated by the interplay of light and shadow created by layered foliage. Back in the studio, he imagined a pendant fixture that would bring that magic indoors, minus the literal leaf shapes.

The first LED fixture produced by this company, queenly, glamorous La Reina is constructed from laser-cut, electro-polished stainless steel that’s powder-coated white inside for added reflectivity. Both sizes, 23½ and 36 inches tall, can be suspended from an individual satin-nickel canopy or custom-clustered with a larger one. 415-778-4300; boydlighting.com. circle 421

Axo Light - Obi

Fixtures in Manuel Vivian’s Obi collection feature ivory or black silk ribbons stretched over drum shades lined with reflective chrome-plated acrylic. In addition to the pendant, there’s a standing lamp and sconce. 39-041-5845193; axolight.it. circle 430

Jesco Lighting Group - Beehave

A honey of a pendant fixture, Beehave features lead-free handblown crystal globes that link vertically or hang individually. The shades come in chocolate, teal, white, wine, or smoke at diameters of 4, 6, or 10 inches. Socket finishes are chrome or satin nickel. Accepts a 50-watt bulb. 800-527-7796; jescolighting.com. circle 426

Metalarte - Domo

Tempered-glass Domo shines indoors and out. A blue or red top contrasts with the white body, which measures either 13¾ or 19¾ inches square. Hinson Lighting, 718-482-1100; hinsonlighting.com. circle 427

Orestes Suarez - Glaciares

Warm up to the icy glow of the Glaciares sconce. Constructed of a heavy hand-cut crystal, this substantial fixture is 16 inches wide and 4 inches deep, taking two 25-watt, 4-inch tubular frosted bulbs. 310-312-0477; orestessuarez.com. circle 673

Neo Design - Space Invader

Just when you thought retro-futuristic designs had gone the way of Atari, Space Invader lands to save the day. This bulbous ceramic lamp can be set down on tripod supports or suspended from the ceiling. The exterior glaze comes in six matte colors, the contrasting glossy interior in the same number. 49-2302-690-982; neo-studios.de. circle 428

Pieke Bergmans - Light Bulbs

Light Blubs isn’t a typo. The 18 different handblown crystal droplet forms, internally lit by LEDs, include a task lamp, desk lamp, pendant fixture, and sconce. Sizes range from 7¾ by 27½ inches to 4 by 17¾ inches. 31-65-207-06-97; piekebergmans.com. circle 425

Ceccotti Collezioni - Afterglow

Bask in Afterglow, a floor lamp and three ceiling fixtures. The floor lamp, in burnished tubular brass, has a tempered-glass diffuser 17¾ inches in diameter. Height is 43 1/3 inches with a 44-inch depth. 39-050-701955; ceccotticollezioni.it. circle 424

Vibia - Ameba

Lovers of the compact fluorescent and the tiny protozoon will take a shine to Pete Sans’s Ameba. With a resin body and an acrylic diffuser, this pendant fixture swims through the air. All five versions, which measure approximately 26 inches long by 17¾ wide by 11 high, can connect to create an undulating expanse. 732-417-1700; vibialight.com. circle 423

Urban Archaeology - Gio Ponti

Two elements set apart the rock candy-like confection that is the Gio Ponti chandelier. Forty-one glass cubes, designed by the Italian architect who lends the lamp his name, provide the lighting, while 36-inch metal rods rooted in a natural steel plate make up the base. Even better, it is UL-listed for damp locations. 212-813-6888; urbanarchaeology.com. circle 672

Lutron Electronics Co. - See Touch

Businesslike, balanced, and streamlined, the See Touch tabletop control might just be a recession-proof investment. The keypad allows users to establish multiple settings for lights and window treatments, thanks to buttons that can be engraved and backlit, so you can find them in the dark. Available in 21 finishes. 610-282-3800; lutron.com. circle 422
