It’s the stuff of daytime talk shows: He liked me, but he wanted to change me. No such angst from Giulio Iacchetti, who’s well aware that modification is a specifier’s prerogative. In fact, his Tropico fixtures for Foscarini welcome extreme customization, in practically any shape with diameters up to 6½ feet. Facilitating this flexibility fixation are 3½-inch lengths of faceted thermoplastic resin that snap onto steel rings of varying sizes. Who knew that a walk in the woods could be so illuminating? Strolling through a grove in Peru, Federico Otero was captivated by the interplay of light and shadow created by layered foliage. Back in the studio, he imagined a pendant fixture that would bring that magic indoors, minus the literal leaf shapes.
