Designer Orfeo Quagliata consulted on the Orfeo collection's hand-colored glass Belle pendant with aluminum fittings in satin nickel or chrome. Designer Josep Aregall of Barcelona-based Metalarte offers Tirana floor lamps in beige cotton knit that's been stretched across internally-lit metal frames. Clodagh's Primitive sconce blends the soft glow of frosted glass with the shadow of brushed steel. Slightly more than twice as tall as its 5-inch width, the fixture extends from the wall less than 4 inches. A dark patina finish is also available. 713-686-5999; visualcomfort.com.
Bruno Rainaldi's GRA pendant pays homage to the Autostrada ring road encircling Rome. Also recalling traditional handcrafts, the 600 small rings are welded into a lacy 3-foot-diameter cage—or a 20-inch ovoid version, which uses 234 rings. Azores-born designer Rui Docouto's current Childhood Memories collection recalls creatures from the deep. The 9-inch-high Black Pill table lamp has five legs individually formed from /-inch rods. Astrid de Saint Anthost's studio creates hand-painted fashion fabrics for the likes of John Galliano at Dior and Christian Lacroix. For one version of Anthost's and Elizabeth Polish's 23-inch-diameter Alberi cast-iron chandeliers, the studio hand-paints bare branches in white onto concentric tubes stitched from panels of vinyl that resist heat from the incandescent bulb. A tree grows in Wisconsin. Principal Christopher Poehlmann is branching out with one-of-a-kind fixtures that use candelabra-base bulbs (flame-tips are just one example). Each unique, surface-mount New Growth bronze chandelier is fabricated from salvaged aluminum, to which Poehlmann applies paint or a dark patina finish. 866-597-4800; cplighting.com.

With Norman, strips of black opalescent glass adhere to a clear methacrylate diffuser, allowing light to pass through the gaps. The linear fixture measures 47 inches long. Unsurprisingly, the drum shade of the Patent pendant fixture is patent leather on the exterior. The surprise is the interior, with its harlequin pattern in black, white, and silver fiberglass. The hefty Alex chandelier weighs in at 70 pounds, with dimensions of 36 by 17 by 12 inches. Not only is the frame solid brass—available in dark antiqued brass or a variety of bronze, nickel, and powder-coated finishes —but the dangling ornaments also run the gamut from rock crystal to citrine and smoky topaz. There were no klieg lights when Giorgetti unveiled its showroom in the New York Design Center. But inside the 3,900-square-foot space, designed by image consultant Ricardo Bello Dias, table lamps by Chi Wing Lo supplied the shine. Lo says he sees his designs as an invitation "to worship light," and he adapted the Greek word for temple when naming them Nao. With its lively pattern of intersecting loops, the fluorescent Circolo sconce runs rings around the others. The lighting designs in Zona's posse combine acrylic bodies with polypropylene shades, available in seven slick colors including black, orange, and red. The client list for Marie Christophe's pewter-wirelamps includes the crème de la crème of French fashion. For Christian Dior's Paris boutiques, Atelier Marie Christophe recently designed three chandeliers, fanciful fixtures that shimmer with a combination of opalescent and transparent crystals.
Her latest series of production pieces, all table lamps, plays with very different materials: steel wire, colored ceramic beads, and black, white, blue, or yellow PVC shades. Baigneuse, a female bather with those beads covering just the right places, stands 36 ½ inches tall. She's joined by a menagerie of similar designs, from the bird-footed Oiseau (19 1/4 inches tall) to the Pelican (29 inches) and the Fugu Fish (38 ½ inches).
