NeoCon West Announces Special Events

Participants include firm Gensler, architect Patrick Tighe, and designer Karim Rashid.

Mairi Beautyman -- Interior Design, 1/13/2006

NeoCon West, March 27-28 in Los Angeles, will present a wide assortment of events to the architecture and design community this year--proving once again that products and resources for commercial, healthcare, retail, institutional, and hospitality interiors are not the show’s only draw.

West Edge: Spaces of Unlimited Creativity, sponsored by Interior Design, will team up six of Los Angeles' hottest design firms with top manufacturers. The task at hand? Create a unique environment--retail,
corporate, hospitality, education, multi-functional or spa--showcasing an unexpected mix of products in a distinctive and original way. Participants include Gensler, Interior Architects, Langdon Wilson, HOK, Griffin & Enright, and Hodgetts & Fung.

For Fine Living: 2026, Patrick Tighe, principal of Tighe Architecture, will fabricate an installation exploring the shape, function, and style of the live/work environment, revealing how design, technology, and new products innovations influence the architecture of the future.

In the Viscusi Career Clinic, March 27-28, attendees can receive career counseling advice. Here, Stephen Viscusi author of On The Job: How to Make it in the Real World of Work (Three Rivers Press), will offer some words of wisdom. In addition to his book, Viscusi's portfolio includes a monthly column and nationally syndicated radio talk show, which combined, have earned him a large following. All attendees are welcome; appointments are not necessary. For more information, visit Viscusi’s Web site.

L.A.DesignWeek kicks off Monday, March 27, from 6-8pm, with an event sponsored by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA). On the night's roster is renowned designer Karim Rashid, who will spin dance beats on the show floor.

Significant issues facing the design practice and profession will be addressed at the Principals' Roundtable, Tuesday, March 28, from 8-9:30am. Presented by the IIDA and Interior Design magazine, the forum (design firm management only) is part of a larger national series.

Additional events include the black-tie 17th Annual IIDA Calibre Awards on Tuesday, March 28 and the poolside L.A.DesignWeek Finale Party, Thursday, March 30 at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica.
