Bridge Street Development Corporation to Unveil Stylish, Affordable Condos

BSDC renovates dilapidated apartment building in historic Brooklyn

Elizabeth Warren -- Interior Design, 6/22/2004

Jay-Z is not typically a source of inspiration for interior designers. Then again, the Bridge Street Development Corporation's (BSDC) Fourth Annual Show House is not a typical design project.

The BSDC, founded in 1995, aims to help Bedford-Stuyvesant residents aquire assets that appreciate in value over time. Over the past eight years the organization has provided more than 350 affordable housing units.

BSDC's latest project involves renovating one of the area's long-neglected but historically significant structures. The newly refreshed Romanesque Revival style building now houses eight condominiums. Each condo will be decorated with a "Bedford-Stuyvesant Legend" in mind. These local "Legends" include rap star Jay-Z, New York Knicks Coach Lenny Wilkens, entertainment attorney L. Londell McMillan and retired Tuskegee Airman John Mulzac.

The project highlights not only local heroes but Brooklyn-based African-American designers as well. Courtney Sloane, the show house chairwoman, will be featured among others.

The showcase will debut on June 17, 2004 and will run until Sunday July 11. After the close of the showcase the condos will be sold to local low and moderate income families. For ticket information call (718) 573-6893.
