The 19th annual Interior Design Magazine Hall of Fame Awards was held last week in the Grand Ballroom at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. Approximately 1,200 members of the design community attended the star-studded gala, the most anticipated industry event of the year. This year's 2003 Hall of Fame inductees are: designer Jamie Drake whose long-time clients include Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Madonna (Mayor Bloomberg stopped in before the lighting of the Christmas tree to congratulate Jamie and Interior Design Magazine VP Publisher Mark Strauss), Stephen Apking of Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill Architects, the acclaimed British architect John Pawson, and icon of modern architectural photography Julius Shulman. Editor in Chief Cindy Allen, the host of the event was surrounded by celebrities including Thom Filicia of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," and notable fashion designer, Yeohlee. At the event, Interior Design Magazine recognized those who have contributed significantly to the development of the interior design field. Proceeds from the event were awarded to the Foundation for Interior Design Education Research (FIDER), and Architecture for Humanity, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting design solutions to global crises. |
