David Anthony Easton

David Easton is quite clear about the work he does. He practices residential design and customarily embraces a traditional aesthetic. Many of his projects fortuitously have involved architecture as well as interiors. "Architecture leads; decoration follow," he says. A focus on detailing and implementation of classical architectural elements is a characteristic of his work, he adds.

Born in Louisville, KY, Mr. Easton earned a BFA degree in Architecture and Design from Pratt Institute and then studied design in Europe under a Fontainebleau scholarship. In 1969, Mr. Easton joined the New York office of the Valerian Rybar firm. Prior to working with Valerian Rybar, he worked for Edward Wormley and for Parish-Hadley.

In 1972, Mr. Easton established his own office in New York City taking on projects in New York City, Chicago and Lyford Cay. As a result of the growing office responsibilities, Mr. Easton was joined by Michael La Rocca in a partnership that lasted from 1973 to 1982.

Located in a town house on East 58th Street in New York City, the firm of David Easton continued to grow and change during the ensuing years. In 1982, Mr. Easton was joined by Eric Smith, an architect from Chicago. Each under their own entity, the relationship between the two firms continues to coordinate many architectural projects.

In April of 2001, David and Charlotte Moss joined their years of experience, talent and skill to form Easton-Moss & Company. They continue to share loft space with Eric J. Smith architects, and between the two associated firms there are approximately 60 employees including architects, decorators, designers, administrative and management personnel.

Today, Easton-Moss & Co is primarily involved with residential work. However, they have also been involved with some commercial work including offices as well as the exciting project of completing The Aspen Mountain Club in Colorado. The firm is currently handling jobs in Mexico, Canada, and England as well as throughout the United States.

Separately, Mr. Easton is also involved in design licensing programs with Lee Jofa Fabrics, designing the Lee Jofa Showrooms, Beauvais Carpets, Walters Wicker, Henredon Furniture, and Cole Wallpapers (an historical wallpaper design and manufacturing firm in England).

Mr. Easton is regularly invited to lecture throughout the United States and Canada, and sits on the boards of both the New York School of Interior Design and Classical America.
