Glass Exhibition Pushes Creative Envelope

The current exhibition at The Corning Museum of Glass showcases designs that are bound to inspire a range of emotions from awe to puzzlement. And, of course, that's the point of this amazing show entitled "Making Ideas: Experiments in Design at GlassLab," which gives visitors a chance to not only see the finished product but also to follow the transformation of an idea from concept to realization. The exhibition gallery was designed by architect Paul Haigh.

The show, which runs until January 6, 2013, showcases glassmaking experiments from nearly 50 designers, many of whom will participate in live sessions as part of the Corning, New York-based museum's GlassLab program. Notable New York designers include Harry Allen, Michele Oka Doner, Stephen Burks and Wendell Castle.  (For a full schedule of live sessions, click here.)

GlassLab was founded in 2007 by the museum to foster collaboration between today's leading designers and glassmakers, encouraging design experimentation through the medium of glass. A mobile glassblowing studio has enabled this collaboration to occur globally in any rural or urban locale.
