Photography for Social Change Auction
Date: April 18, 2009
Location: The Stephen Cohen Gallery, Los Angeles
An exhibit and silent auction of 100 images taken by leading photographers around the globe will be held at the Stephen Cohen Gallery in Los Angeles on April 18, 2009. Directed by photographer Julia Dean and hosted by actor Aaron Eckhart, the purpose of this silent auction is to raise money for the first of a five-year series of photo documentary projects on five pressing social issues.
The project aims to bring awareness to important social issues, as well as bolster the field of documentary photography and provide a venue for talented photojournalists. The first auction will raise funds to complete Dean’s current collaborative project, “Child Labor and the Global Village: Photography for Social Change.”
The photographs will be available for viewing two days prior to the event both in-studio and online allowing those who live outside the region bid throughout the evening. All proceeds benefit the current project. Subsequent auctions will provide financial support for four additional documentary projects in America.
