Made from sustainably harvested or reclaimed woods and bamboo, Fortis Arbor Wood Mosaic Tiles from Flux Studios are a great alternative to the usual ceramic tiles. The wood tiles, which have a unique tactile quality, can be used for any interior applications with limited water exposure. Each tile is cut by hand, and the materials harvested through partnerships with furniture makers in which Flux Studios collects off-cuts and cast-off wood pieces.

Herman Miller Embody Chair

December 15, 2008 | Link This | Email this | Comments (0)

Herman Miller's new Embody chair acknowledges that "sitting is bad for you," and then poses a healthier alternative. And for those of us who spend most of the day at a desk (or table at a cafe, like me), it's a welcome change. Embody was designed with advice from expert physicians to be both comfortable and actually improve oxygen flow and reduce heart rate--raising the bar on ergonomics! Embody is also 95 percent recyclable, is made from 42 percent recycled content, and meets all kinds of green certifications from Cradle-to-Cradle to GREENGUARD.

Holiday Placemats Made From Potato Chip Bags

December 11, 2008 | Link This | Email this | Comments (0)

Potato chips may not be the best thing to put in your stomach, but this holiday season, potato chip bag placemats might be the brightest thing to put on your tabletop. These sparkly round placemats from BTC Elements are made from the inside layer of potato chip bags, wrapped around dried grass similar to raffia. Handwoven and fairly traded from Nepal, and they make matching coasters too.

$120 for a set of 6 from BTC Elements

Get your Green Menorahs!

December 9, 2008 | Link This | Email this | Comments (1)

My favorite choices for eco menorahs are bright and festive, maybe even with a little extra green glimmer than their non-eco counterparts.  The recycled steel pipe menorah from Notschlock, called the Man-orah, is an industrial take on the ordinary. Or if you're a DIY-er, check out the LED kits and make your own mini techy menorahs. Kits are only $10 each.

Amenity, the makers of supple organic cotton bedding, have released their first-ever holiday collection of festive (and green!) holiday ornaments- moons and stars and doves, oh my! The cloth ornaments are made from a hemp and organic cotton blend textile, adorned with a pattern inspired by pine needles scatterd across the forest ground. So cute, you might want one in every color.
