Shipwreck Furniture

March 21, 2011

shipwreck table

South African designer Nic Kruger is turning flotsam and jetsam into tables and chairs. Years ago, he stumbled upon a wrecked boat, named the Kunene, and fell in love with the patinas of her siding. The moment provided the inspiration for his company, Shipwreck Furniture, which now produces one-of-a-kind furniture pieces out of wood scavenged from old boats. Whether a bench or a table or chair, each piece tells a story about an adventure at sea, and is truly unique. See the full portfolio of work here.

Wow! Building furniture out of wood from shipwrecked boats is truly a brilliant idea. The furniture looks antique and mysterious. Very interesting! happywalldecals.com

LOVE this shipwreck furniture! Each piece tell's a story - that's for sure. But what's intriguing to me is the mystery of the untold stories. Where was the ship going? When? Were there survivors? What caused the wreck? Was any of the ship's bounty ever found?

Truely beautiful pieces made by a craftsman. The first table would look even more fantastic on a Tibetan area rug of wool and silk in a saturated color. Worn, aged, beautiful wood contrasted with a sumptuous soft rich rug - perfection!
