IKEA Builds Wind Farms to Power Stores

February 24, 2011

IKEA Wind Farm

Whether IKEA qualifies as sustainably-minded or not has long been up for debate, though I tend to fall on the "yes, they're trying really hard" side of the fence. The latest of their green initiatives comes with their recent announcement to build nine wind farms in partnership with Stockholm-based company O2. The wind farms will provide enough power to run 17 of their stores in Sweden, and are scheduled to be completed by 2012. The company already owns over 50 wind farms around Europe that provide 10 percent of the company's power, but this next round of wind farm construction is a step towards their goal of running off of 100 percent renewable energy in the not-so-distant future.
