Hertz Rents its First Chevy Volt
January 25, 2011

I don't own a car, but I do find myself having to rent occasionally, which is supremely frustrating given the cost and lack of responsible choices (somehow I always end up in a way-too-big minivan: "Ms. Pilloton, we've upgraded you for free!"). In December, though, Hertz announced that it would implement the nation's first electric vehicle rental program with a fleet of all-electric Chevy Volts (among others). This past week, Hertz rented their first Chevy Volt to one Mr. Elliott Jones out of one of their New York City locations. All this is made possible via the company's
Connect by Hertz, a car-sharing program available in select locations including New York City. At one of the 175 Connect by Hertz locations, you can "check out" one of 400 electric vehicles, including a Volt, Prius, Smart Car, or Nissan leaf. Check out the full initiative
here.
