Philips' new LED bulb at Home Depot

December 20, 2010

Most of us have switched over to CFLs by now, and just in time for the LED to come along and blow it out of the water. An LED bulb has a life of over 25,000 hours (that's about 15 years of standard usage), though up until now, the light emitting diodes have been relegated to Christmas lights and lighting in some houses (many people complain that the light is too cool or harsh for ambient light). But Philips has launched their new bulb, the A19 AmbientLED, an 800-lumen bulb that is warm in color and dimmable, making it ideal for ambient applications. The 12-watt bulb delivers the same illumination as a 60-watt incandescent, at 20% of an incandescent's energy. On top of all that, the AmbientLED bulb contains no mercury or lead and fits in any standard bulb fixtures. Despite the close-to-$40 price tag, with a life of 15 years, it seems like a steal. $39.97 at Home Depot.

i am blown away by this bulb so far.
I bought one...its now functioning in a hi-use fixture (kitchen) and shines in ALL directions. Except for the 1/2 second delay in coming on, the light is indistinguishable from an incandescant.
i highly recommend this bulb.
