The Ultimate Recycling Station

A new initiative by Coca-Cola will be unveiled later this month, taking public recycling programs to the next level. The Reimagine reycling container takes your cans and bottles by the heapful, crushes them, and stores them, and will give you "My Coke Rewards" points in return. The concept, from Coca-Cola and the Environmental Products Corporation, can store up to 65,000 crushed cans, and uses a conveyor belt and optical scanner to sort and store the bottles and cans efficiently. The raw material will be processed to create new aluminum cans, with the plastic going to various places to be turned into clothing, carpet, and other recycled PET textiles. The first container will go up in Arlington, Texas later this month, with many more scheduled to follow throughout 2011.
