Make a Difference, Not Just a Noise, With Your Old Vuvuzela

During the World Cup, the sound of the buzzing vuvuzela rang in our ears. Some called it spirited, others just loud and annoying. Regardless, a recent competition asked individuals to envision the most creative ways to turn the thousands (maybe millions) of the noisemakers into something useful and beautiful post-World Cup. The competition, called WoZela!, recently came to a close, the winner and runners-up displaying all kinds of ingenuity for the reuse of vuvuzelas.

From shovels to plant pots to coat racks, tables, light fixtures, and more, the solutions were many, but the ultimate winner was Megan Bernstein of Cape Town, who turned multiple vuvus into colorful earrings. The context, organized by Matt Blitz and Shawn McCormack, was a huge crowd-pleaser, and with its tagline "Make a difference, not just a noise," has proven that the spirit of the World Cup can live on as useful objects. has proven to be a crowd favorite!
