Greener TP: Scott Goes Tube-less

According to Kimberly-Clark, cardboard toilet paper tubes (17 billion of them discarded per year) account for upwards of 160 million pounds of trash! Despite the fact that the tubes are made from cardboard, they are rarely recycled, sparking Scott brand toilet paper (owned by Kimberly-Clark) to get rid of the roll entirely. In the next few weeks, the company will begin testing its Tube-Free TP in Walmart and Sam's Club stores in the Northeastern US, with a possible national roll-out (pun intended) to follow. The new tubeless rolls won't have the rigidity of the tube, so will likely be less round, but the company promises they will easily fit on standard toilet paper spindles (thought the trick, a special winding process, is being kept a secret).
